Got this image during last few moments of the evening sun as the grizzly luckily stood up with some backlighting. Look forward to comments.

I like everything about this - the backlighting, the way you kept detail in the grizzly, the cold mood. I also the like the background, there is enough detail to put the grizzly in a context, but there's nothing to distract. Excellent!

I think this is great, Chet! The "standing" pose and the non-disruptive habitat really show this guy well. Excellent shot!!

It doesn't get better tha this. Love the light on the land, the rim lighting on the bear, the bear standing, the composition, everything!

What they said. One of my favourite grizzly images. I must say that showing this bear in the environment like you have gives us viewers such a great sense of being there and what it's habitat is about. Most of us know exactly what a grizzly looks like from the hundreds, OK thousands, of head and shoulder portraits out there. This to me is far more wonderful than the close-ups as it says so much more. Excellent work!

Hey Chet,
This is awesome. I wish I had a single image that conveys as strongly how much I enjoy the grizzly bear.
Cheers

The bear is very strongly placed in the lower right of the image, and the OOF tree on the left balances the composition nicely. The environment around is interesting to peruse when you get the minute to look away from the grizzly, but the lines of the background all lead you back to the subject. The only possibly superfluous element is the rightmost OOF background tree. Cropping (most of) it changes the mood of the image slightly. But that’s a minor thought on a great image.
Outstanding work, Chet!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. You are right Jim it does change the mood by cropping that tree...had never thought of that before.
Hey Carl
I've seen a photo of grizzly sow and two cubs with a caribou carcass that is unbelievable and makes one truely appreciate the grizzly...you should check it out. ha.
I was introduced to naturephotographers.net through that image...an incredible shot, Carl.
Thanks again everyone.
