Cypress in the Morning

Taken in late October - early morning. I had to wait until the shadows from the trees behind me got shorter so it's about 60 minutes after the sun came up. We don't have a lot of great landscapes to shoot in our area, but these cypress trees do provide good color in the fall. I was standing just off the 9th fairway of a local golf course to shoot this. Please view larger version for more detail.

5DII, 24-105mm, F16, 1/10 sec, ISO 160.

I find this image to be subtly hypnotic... very intriguing. Somehow, I find slightly disturbing the fact that there is more reflected sky below the trees than the sky above...

Wick,

Great symmetry and overall beautiful image. I think you've done a perfect job in capturing/presenting the right light balance between the upper and reflected part of the scene. Great color, contrast - all good. Even the little bit of whispy clouds is a nice touch.

It's a very pleasing photo, Wick. David Chauvin has made cypress the into a landscape icon, so you're really lucky, I think, to have these nearby. The light is good here, but I could see maybe darkening the sky and lightening the reflection a bit for more balance.
