Color Burst

Here is another from the first sunset of our late october trip. I like this image because I don't get a lot of opportunities to shoot intense color like this. I'm a little on the fence about the total silhouette on the large sea stack. What i mean is that it would be nice to have some detail there, but I'm not so sure it was really even possible to get. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Large version included.

Wishing everyone here at NPN a happy and wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Enjoying the light and ripples in the water here Chris. The silhouette works well for me and adds to the atmosphere

Beautiful sunset, Chris. This looks really nice to me, and I really don't think you need the detail in the silhouette. The reflection with the rippled water looks wonderful. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

Beautiful sunset and ripples. I like the dark sihouette as is - but if you felt strongly about trying to recover some detail, a program like Viveza would do it.
(free trial is fully functional: http://www.niksoftware.com/viveza/usa/entry.php?view=intro/viveza_announcement.shtml)

Happy Holidays and peaceful New Year to you and your family too!

I also like the dark silhouette for the rocks. I think it works well with all the great color.

The only way I would know to get some detail in the rock would to have bracketed some exposures and stacked them. Probably too late for now, but I tend to do that regularly just to have them in case I decide I want them later in processing.

Very pretty Chris. The ripples and reflected color look great IMO - could make some fantastic intimate abstracts with those ripples! Well composed too.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Don't mind the silhouette at all, Chris. The FG ripples and intense light make the scene, seastack is just an added bonus. Merry Christmas to you as well!

Beautiful coastal sunset image Chris. As already mentioned, the ripples in the wet sand really stand out nicely. I don't mind the lack of details in the rock, although it's bordering on taking up a lot of real estate where I might want more detail. But you've got enough interest and beauty in the sky and sand to make up for it.

Merry Christmas Chris to you and your family! See you next year!

Pretty, love the shore ripples especially! Dont mind the silhouette, but it feels a bit heavily balanced to the lhs here, i think the point at the 1/3 point would have been best. Merry Christmas, Chris! :wavey:

The silhouette does not bother me at all, Chris. I love the intense color in the sky along with that in the rippled water. Do you have any other comps with the sea stack just a bit more to the left? It certainly is not a deal breaker by any means, but it feels just a bit heavy on the RHS.

Chris, I enjoy the stunning colors and silhouette complemented by the calm surface in the foreground. The reflection of the rock just makes the difference for me.
