Milk Moustache

It's the best Snowy Owl winter in years, and the only thing I've had a chance to shoot lately are Hummingbirds while on a business trip in San Francisco.

This guy reminded me of my 8-year old son at breakfast, who inevitably has a milk moustache when he's done. Or a peanut butter moustache. Or strawberry jam. Anything he eats, really. This little Anna's obviously has the same table manners as my son, with the pollen on his beak.

Canon 50D, 400 5.6L, 1/800, f7.1, ISO 400. No flash...didn't bring all my stuff since it was a business trip. Kind of wish I'd had it along, if for nothing else than to give me a better chance to get his gorget to show the colors.

Gorgeous image of such a tiny bird and the yellow on the bill is awesome. Hope you get back soon and can take advantage of the snowy tsunami

Looks as though you got pretty close to this guy Terry. Love the perch and the 'stash', along with a the creamy background.

Excellent - very nice detail in the larger version. I doubt if flash would have brought out any color in the gorget from this angle - I think it looks fine as is.

I am glad you didn't use a flash, I think it would have detracted from the point of interest...the pollen "mustache"!

Beautiful capture of the anna's and very well suited to the comp. and almost square format. The OOF BG clearly adds to the value of this fine posting. Congrats Terry!

Wonderful close up of this Anna's with some very nice detail in the larger version. I think this image looks fine without flash and a slight head turn might of revealed some gorget colors, nice job getting this close, way to go.
