Toe Pickin' Jackrabbit

I recently had a unique (to me) experience where I encountered two Antelope Jackrabbits that tolerated my presence somewhat. Usually once they see me in the desert they are bounding away until well out of sight! This time I was able to loosely follow two of them for close to 45 minutes before it got too dark. This was a strange photo and I am not exactly sure if it "works". It does show how oddly relaxed he was around me as he is cleaning his toes. I had a horrible glare reflecting off of my lens from the setting sun, and secondly, I often found myself peering at them through cactus! I did not crop this at all.

C&C welcome.

Eirini, your composition really shows off this jackrabbit. I love the light shining through his ears. I wonder how other compositions would look (i.e. cropping some off the bottom or some off the top), but am not sure they would look any better. It would be interesting to see some other comps if you would care to post them.

I have tried cropping it different ways, but I always start to feel more claustrophobic about the cactus when it is cropped for some reason. Here I did a very small crop...let me know if you think it's better, or if I should crop it differently. Thanks!

Hmmm, this is a hard one. I have to agree that the repost does seem a bit claustrophobic. How about leaving the left and right sides as they were in the original and just taking a bit off the top and the bottom???

Hmmm...I don't know if this helps much. Maybe it was too weird of a photograph!

I think I like the last crop the best, but it will be interesting to see what others think.

Eirini, very good image IMHO. I like the light coming through the jacks ears. Your first re-post is my favorite. You don't see many photos of jack rabbits, and this is a good one. Thanks for sharing.

Nice use of backlighting! I concur with the others in preferring the last version.

What a fun shot Eirini. This rabbit looks right at home among the cactuses - a natural habitat. I like the glow of the cactuses that form the frame.

I really like this shot--love the back-lighting! For what its worth, I prefer the first repost/crop.
