Frigid & Frosty Morning

Just got back from shooting with Marc in the Canadian Rockies. What a great time! The mountains there are much craggier and more impressive then their brethren to the south. Unfortunately, we didn't get the new snow we were hoping for, but we did get cold temps and lots of hoar frost.

Several exposures blended for DOF in the foreground. Then, two exposures blended for the sky and everything else.

Lovely hoar frost scratchy crystals of it. Like the combination with the reflection. Despite the cold I see you still have some liquid to get a reflection in.

Crowfoot Mountain and Bow Lake are outrageously beautiful even without snow. This is magnificent Kory. I especially love the crystallized ice forms in the foreground.

Beautiful scene Kory, and great job with the blending. Looks like a big dust spot just beneath the horizon line on the far right hand side.. :toast:

Thanks, all.

Ian: Actually, this was the very last day this spot was open. The next time we visited, it was totally frozen over.

Eva: is that the name of this mountain? Neither Marc nor I knew.

Zack: Good eye. I'll take care of that confounded dust spot.

Kory - The minute I saw the thumbnail I knew this was Crowfoot at Bow Lake. http://www.evamcdermottphotography.com/p176318573/h1499bdc7#h1499bdc7 My family and I stayed at Num-Ti-Jah Lodge for 3 days in the summer of 2009 and this mountain was in our face the whole time. A French Canadian co-worker of mine (mountaineering type) told me about this place and said it is not to be missed...... and he was right. I had this whole place to myself every sunrise which kinda freaked me out at times when I heard rustling in the brush thinking grizzlies were going to get me any second. Never saw a one though but it is grizzly country.

Did ya get to Bow Falls? They are a bit more to the right and visible from this vantage point in my link. Another amazing place. My two sons (18 and 22 now) really enjoyed the rock scramble opportunities too especially at Cirque Peak with great overlooks of the whole area. I did not climb it but I saw their pictures from there. Living the dream through my kids now. Wish I had my Kayak to explore the calm waters here.

Hope you got to the Columbia Ice Fields. Another amazing place in Canadian Rockies though Bow Lake / Crowfoot Mountain is still my favorite.

Fantastic. That touch of light on the mountain is sure nice. Would imagine that a large print will really showcase the incredible detail in the frost.

Definitely one of the better images I have seen from this area Kory. The kiss of light on the peak along with the reflection is icing on the cake.

Nice scene Kory! The frost is amazing in this scene. The detail on the mountain keeps the eye interested. Processing looks good! Marc invited me to tag along, but was just to busy! I am sure a -40C bag was necessary with that crispy cold scene

Kory, nice look. This looks very sharp, and very naturally processed. Not to mention amazing subjects, from the frosted foreground to the shimmer of light on the mountain. nicely done!

Cool! Love the frosty fg. I might boost the warm sat just a bit in the sky, it could use a little more color i think.
