Full Moon Night

This is from my Matterhorn Trip in October when I met Andreas Resch, Dietrich Glogger and Giovanni Rusello. After the sunset was more or less a bit disappointing at Stellisee that evening (at least for me) I waited for the full moon to rise. It was a great night for night photography at Stellisee. This is one of them. The full moon was right behind me and lit up the mountain landscape. The night was almost as bright as daylight.
Techs: Nikon D700, 16-35 lens (@26mm), ISO 400, 137 sec, f8
Thanks for any comments and thoughts

I like the comp! The small star trails kind of add to the intrigue and give you a clue that you're looking at night here--otherwise i might have thought this was just a shot close to sunrise/sunset. It's too bad you couldn't get the moon in the pic as well--that way there'd be no question is was moonlight...nevertheless, a cool shot!

Great shot and I really like the composition with the peak reflected in the lake. I have been experimenting with moonlight shots and want to try to convey the nighttime, but without the star movement. Guess it needs to be a double exposure. Thanks for sharing.

I like the kind of "distorted reality" here, Bill where the scene appears much brighter than it actually was. Must have been hard to compose the shot in the dark, but you did very well.

The moon light is just beautiful. It gives a whole other look to this landscape.

An impressive classical composition for me, Bill. Interestingly the star trails are the only hint for me that this is a night photography. Colors turned out really strong and convincing.

Love the rusty reds in combo with the dark blues here. Your comp is also very nice and balanced. The Matterhorn is in the perfect thirds position, the only thing that makes it lose impact is the fuzzy/smudgy cloud above it. Even so, I'm enjoying the wonderful light here and serene mood.

I'm loving mountains and I just sit here and enjoy what I see. The trails of the stars, the top of Matterhorn and the crisp foreground with its reflections makes my eys wet. So nice Bill. :toast:

Hey cool to see this! That evening, I was a bit further away (bit down the trail from Grindjisee) to shoot some of the birches at the base of Findelglacier. I was hiking back to our camp which Andres Gio and I had set up a bit up from Stellisee. The full moon helped me to find my way back. I passed you guys and saw your headlights, not know that it was you at the time!
It was fantastic to see all the snow covered peaks and the glaciers lit up by the moon. I think I can appreciate this one because it brings back some good memories!

Love the deep, rich color Bill especially rusty reds against the blue. Nice light on the mountains as well.

Thanks all for your feedbacks.I always have a hard time processing night shots so they do not look too bright...especially in full moon nights.

Like the color. It is amazing that color is so vivid under moon light.

Bill,

Wonderful night and full moon photography and landscape. I kinda wish there were more stars/trails, but I can't be too picky. I like the crisp, clarity here especially how the snow contrasts with all the blue.

Just pulled up the larger view and the stars show up better in that view. It also gave me the idea of a pano crop? Not to fix anything here, but as an alternative. I think symmetry would really stand out by cropping some off the bottom. I think not only the narrow format would be cool, but also it removes the reality of the visible lake bottom in the foreground making the reflections more pronounced. Just a thought.
