This was taken just outside my door as the sun was backlighting the leaves. This little guy just happened to pose for me :) (not sure on right forum...so tried here)

Thanks!

Neat!! That's a perfect pose for sure. Nice light too. Wish it was in more focus up top, but that's a minor nit.
FWIW, i wouldn't have thought twice about putting this in fauna--it's pretty obvious (to me anyways) that this is all about the lizard, the lizard defines the shot--plus you'll get better feedback for this type of shot in that gallery cause a lot of us landscape guys only get shots like this by accident

Aaron,

Can't disagree with Balan - this is very artistic and a great example of how and why nature photography can and IS art. You've captured a beautiful moment; great light and composition. Any softness in the leaves doesn't bother me at all, the important parts, the lizard, are in focus and that's pretty much what matters.

Also can't disagree with Stan. As much as I'd like to leave this here, this will be my first move from Landscape to Wildlife, formerly Fauna. I understand being unsure about where to post so hopefully you'll understand the move. Let me or anothe rmod know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks Aaron - you've got a winner here!

Pose is right. The backlit shadow is fabulous, especially of the feet, and I like the head sticking out at the top. I just read the discussion about honesty in crtiques in the discussion gallery, and I can honestly say this is exceptional, IMO. :toast:

Very well seen. The converging curved lines work so well together and with the silhouette of the lizard. Great job, Aaron.

This is a very appealing image Aaron with strong shapes and interesting play of light. I do wish you had included a larger ersion for us to appreciate this even better and to see if there is any visible eye. :toast:

Hi Aaron,

Very creative, very appealing. I particularly like how the head is emerging from behind the leaf (with the bulk of the body shown only as a shadow/silhouette). The only thing I would experiment with (if this image were mine) would be to slightly darken the shadow of the lizard to make it stand out that little bit more from the other regions of the image that are of similar tones. Just a thought - but a very strong image as posted...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad

PS: From my perspective the Wildlife Gallery is definitely the right place for this shot...

A very compelling image, Aaron...reminiscent of Bence Mate's work (he won the BBC WPOTY last year, but I think you knew that  ).

I would add some points to the black channel to add some punch to the shadow areas.

Awesome shot. No nits from me. If this were mine, I'd probably remove some of the blemishes to minimize the amount of micro distractions, but I'm aware that for many nature photographers this is blasphemy, in which case please ignore my suggestion.

Wow, thanks a lot for the feedback everyone. I figured this would get moved over here :P

Seems that a few people want a bit extra black do the shadow tones. Will check in to that.

@morkel - actually dont pay attention to that stuff but i do recall some winning image of a similar subject? i mostly submit and forget. contest are fun to get noticed but way too much subjectivity. :)

@marsel - i'm not always against removing distracting elements and can see that being a benefit here. good to hear from ya!
