Autumn on the River

This is an image from about two weeks ago along the popular “Riverside Walk” trail in Zion National Park. We had walked a few miles up the Narrows (which begins at the end of the Riverside Walk) during the course of the day, and this shot was taken late in the afternoon as we were concluding our hike. It was a good way to wrap up a superb hiking day in Zion.

Canon 5DII, 17-40L at 22mm, 1.6 seconds at f/16 (ISO 200), polarizer.

Love the color in the water. It contrasts nicely with the trees and canyon wall.

Pretty scene, Phil, nice mix of colors! I find the strips of blue up top a tad distracting; id prefer the entire top to be warm to contrast with the cool river. I like the comp tho :wavey:

I like this better than many "narrows" images. A lot going on here, all of it very attractive and working well together.

As the others have said, great mix of colors here Phil! I like how this has a more open feel than most "Narrows" shots I've seen!

Very nice mix of elements and colors here Phil. Love the water motion and color contrasting with the fall leaves. It looks like a difficult scene to compose, part of me wants more of the river to the right, but you would lose some of the golden trees, and I'm not sure what is on the right side of the frame.

Nice work.

Yeah, I agree this is a nice open scene for the narrows area. Nice color and brightness too. A very nice shot.

Having never been to the "narrows", I can't comment as the others have about the openness of the image. All I can say is that I think it's a great shot. :toast:

Phil,

As others have already mentioned, a great combination of elements all crafted together in a beautiful capture from Zion. I like everything here from the wonderful color and motion in the stream to the autumn trees, canyon walls... and the icicles top it off perfectly. Well seen and captured.

One beautiful image. The autumn color has a wonderful glow, and I love the color contrasts between the water and the sandstone walls and rocks. Fantastic.

Beautifully done, Phil. Everything comes together very nicely here from the rugged beauty of the area to the autumn color of the aspen.

Thanks for the feedback! Stan, I thought the blue areas on the wall may draw a comment or two. I'll try your suggestion since they caught my eye prior to posting as well. Kevin . . . I've got nothing more to the right in any of the photos I took from this location and I agree, I should have included a bit more while composing.

A lovely interpretation of all in Zion. I love how the color in the trees and the rushing water bring a sense of life to this canyon scenery. Fascinating.
