Early Morning Beauty

I overslept yesterday morning so I did not get out as early as I had hoped. But it was pretty foggy so the light stayed pretty low and soft. I saw this pretty doe very early in my walk and she seemed to be quite relaxed and composed. Maybe because there wasn't a buck around tending to her. I liked the quiet mood of this image of a very nice looking black-tailed doe rather than the more macho buck images I've been taking lately. I was tempted to crop the LLC vegetation out but decided to leave it in as it seemed to add some balance and another layer to the photo. So, was that a good decision? Processed in PSE10. Comments and critiques welcomed and appreciated.

Very nice deer and great pose. I think I would try to take out the lower right brush, probably with a crop. It is very distracting from your beautiful deer. I really like the background - looks like fog and adds to the atmosphere.

Deer, as a very commonly viewed wildlife don't get the same attention as some other exotic species, but I think this has some very good elements. I like the rendering of the subject withing that mysterious looking background. I think the dark weeds in the lower right are a major distraction, however, and i am left wishing you had a slightly different point of view to eliminate them.

Hi Peter,

I like both the soft light and muted colours here. And - like you point out - the head turn adds a lot to this image. I do agree with both Lon and Margaret that the dark vegetation in the lower right corner is a pretty big distraction and has a significant impact on the image.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Beautiful background and light and very sharp deer. You could possibly try a crop including the entire upper branch, which I think would leave sufficient room on the right but remove most of the OOF foreground vegetation.

Dark distraction. What dark distraction a little time with a clone brush and problem solved. I don't see how you can crop that out. Unless you go vertical...
