Grindjisee

This is Grindijsee late afternoon. While enjoying the beautiful afternoon up at Stellisee a fellow Swiss photographer named Roland Gerth joined me and we decided to hike back down to Grindjisee for some late afternoon shots there and then hike the 45 minutes up again to Stellisee to set up camp and then shoot at Stellisee at sunset. Late afternoon isn’t the best time to shoot at Grindjisee, especially if you want to photograph the classic view with the lake, the larches and the Matterhorn and its reflection. But if you’re looking a little bit further there are plenty of other composition opportunities.

Techs: Nikon D700, 16-35 lens (@29mm), ISO 200, 1/15 sec, f14, Polarizer
Thanks for any comments and thoughts

Hi Bill, Its beautiful! What a wonderful place. The golden larches with the blue sky and reflection is hard to beat. It all goes together so well. The snow on the mountains really finished it off! :toast:

Normally do not go for photos taken in mid-day sun, but this is really beautiful. The combination of the blue/gold is very eye catching.

Gold and blues are beautiful Bill. Only suggestion I have is to maybe burn down the brighter lower left corner. Beautiful scene.

Nice one Bill--a real classic Mountain scene! The sky is pretty dark/polarized, but that's pretty much what id expect from the clean mountain air. My only suggestion is to crop a tad of the lhs--that one little peak has got to go

Beautiful work, Bill. The colors are so vivid...I'd say you and Roland must have had a great afternoon.

I really like the feeling in this image. I can feel the clean, clear, crisp fall air.

Bill,

Beautiful autumn scenic. I was gonna say it looks like you used a polarizer and yes, you did. I think the effect of the polarizer filter works very well here. I love the rich color; just right.

The only suggestion I have would be a painting burn down of the LH shoreline. It's not over exposed really, but brighter relative to the rest of the scene and I think pulls the eye a little away from the main show which is the autumn trees and reflection. What a pretty scene - makes me wish I was there.

Bill, you handled the light extremely well in my opinion, beautiful bright colors. The subsurface elements add a lot for me. I enjoy the way you lead me from near to distance.

I think darkening the foreground at the left would be an option, this might help me to keep my attention in the main area of interest.

Another strong shot in some "un-photogenic" light. Quite impressive what you made here. I think it is a good lesson to not always go for the "sweet" light. Particularly the reflection looks great.

Spectacular scene Bill. I feel the brown bush on the left is a little distracting. Such color on the right and center and then the dull bush. On the other hand I love the reflection of the trees and that beautiful blue sky in the water.

The lovely and realistic rendition of this place brings back some nice memories of the time in October there. The light is tough but the combination of the deep blue sky, the snow and the great landscape can create wonderful shots even under these conditions.
