Studio shot with one candle behind and below skull. When travelling in the Peruvian Amazon area a native girl probably around 7 or 8 YO wanted my wifes scarf. She was wearing this skull on a string around her neck so we traded even up. This measures less than 2" top to bottom of upper jaw.

E-5, 50mm macro

manual focus
ISO 200
tripod
90% of FF cropped from sides

Sorry, I goofed, this was with two candles, left and right, behind and below and there was enough ambient light to bring out the front of skull. You might note that the right eye bone had been broken and repaired not so effectively.

Great idea for the lighting Charlie. It's worked very effectively. My personal preference would be to have a slightly lighter skull overall with the highlights at the tone that you have them. Cool idea and great trade and story. E

I hope you still have the skull. There are many creative things you could do with it. I have a friend who collects weird objects and incorporates them into interesting images. This is a nice stock image. On some rainy day, you will have to use this in some Halloween montages. This little guy must have been all eyes.

I still have the skull, in fact I had it in a small shadow box display on my desk and removed it for this shot. I know I'll take other shots at various thoughts for images.

Thanks for comments. I guess this is the skull of a squirrel monkey, or what?

I like the image Charlie. Creative lighting and well executed. I hope you bought your wife a new scarf since you got the skull.

Very cool shot. Candle light was a great idea and I like how the skull glows gently through the eye sockets. I do find myself wishing that the back rim of the skull was sharp.

Hi all,

Howard I'll just say NEVER! Monkeying around are I.

Mark, at 20 sec exposure I guess some movement came in. I wasn't working for perfection here. Unlike some perfectionists on NPN I fool around alot.
