Happened across this today in the UP of Michigan. Not too keen on the deer trail through the scene on the left side. The .jpg compression will probably be difficult on the small detail.
C&C appreciated.

Tom,
I think you've commented on my two nits already - I'm sure the details would be much better appreciated on paper. That said the layering in the image is eye catching.

Hi Tom, I think this is very nice. Great layers and the colors are really nice. The large version looks especially good to me. This has a feel that I very much enjoy. I guess it would probably be better without the deer trail but there seems to be another break on the right side so it kind of balances out and looks fine. This really says November to me and I like that look. Very nice work on this! Happy late Thanksgiving!

I like the way you set the layers up here Tom. Good color contrasts. Not much further to nit than what has already been mentioned.

The textures and colors make for some nice layers. Proportionally, I could see having a bit less of the light colored grass by cropping some off the bottom.

Beautiful Tom. The deer trail doesn't bother me in the least; in fact, I kinda like it. This has a great "winter's" feel to it.

Very nice Tom. It reminds me of the aspen shot I posted last month. It has the same impressionistic quality to it, like a scene Monet would have painted. Nicely seen.

Tom,
This is wonderful - and of course much better seen in the larger version. I love the layers of color and texture here. I'm really drawn to the red against the bare trees in the bg; the foreground grass adds another nice layer of color and detail. As far as the gap on the left, it doesn't bother me at all. But I do have a suggestion that includes cropping that out from the left. My thinking is that there is just slightly too much grass (like I said, I'm partial to the bg.) So if you crop the deer path on the left and come up from the bottom about 1/4 to 1/3 of the grass you end up tightening up the comp just a little and give just a little extra emphasis on the reds and trees. The grasses are still important, but less dominant. HOpe that makes sense. Definitely a image I would be proud of.

The beautiful mix of color and rich detail really make this special. I actually like the two breaks in the grass layer.

I really like the wilderness feel to this, Tom. The red and gray go
so well together.

I really like what you have done here with the layers of contrasting color and texture. My only nit would be that I think I would like the comp better if there was a little less grass and more of the bare tree branches ( not sure if it was possible though) - quite nice as is though.

Thank you all for the constructive comments. Here is an edited version cropped from the left to remove the deer trail and from the bottom removing some of the grasses. The cropping does help.

As wintery and bleak as this looks I love it. I miss this type of scene in my native state of Oregon! The red makes the image IMO

Wonderful November scene Tom. The deer trail does not bother me since there is a break in the grasses on the right side as well to help balance things out. I would agree with others that a slight crop off the bottom might strengthen this even more.
