Another from Bosque Del Apache. This is full frame with a little added canvas on the right. The crane was so big in the frame that it felt like it needed a bit more room.

Canon 50D, 500mm f/4 with 1.4xTC
1/1600 @ f/5.6
ISO 200
NR applied to background

Handheld

Larger Version included.

Thanks for your thoughts.

A visually stunning image. The light on the underwing is glowing and the view and sharpness at the eye are dead on. Well done.

Wonderful flight pose and detail. I like the stark contrast between the head/body and the dark BG, but the dark area around the tail gets a little lost lost. If you could lighten up this area a bit, I think it would improve this nice image even further.

I like the color transition on the wings but go back and forth on that layered background. Very nice handheld flight shot with the 500, not an easy thing to do, way to go.

Had to view the larger option to fully appreciate this photo. The feather detail is exceptional. It almost appears that a bulb went off inside the wings to illuminate the bird like a lamp shade, very cool. Good luck or good timing, but the light colored head is ideally situated against the dark background area. :toast:

Kieth, I can appreciate the difficulty in framing these flight shots, and you did well with the added canvas.

Gary's entire comment is exactly how I feel about this image so I won't repeat it all. Fun to look at the larger version. An impressive photo Keith. I too am impressed that you got this essentially full frame and HH. A few seconds hand-holding that lens and I'm toast.
