Who lived here?

An abandoned homestead on ranch land on the Sonoma coast of California north of Jenner. The is a recently digitized scan of a kodachrome slide taken around 1975 to 1980. I've done a lot of processing and feel this is pretty close to natural color. I have another version that I like alot but is not as true color.

Nikon FE with 50mm f2

Large version available

I like your composition, Charlie. Had you consider perhaps cropping just a tad from the bottom (about half way thought the horizontal plank) and maybe converting to b/w or maybe sepia? There's a green cast to the cast and the blurred horizontal board draws the eye away from the house. My 2-cents ;^)

Regards,

Carol

I too, like the composition. If you had brought the point of focus forward to the near corner of the building it would have been better. It looks like that might be a cypress tree in the back. My first view of the ocean in my life was at Jenner camping with my parents in a Ford Fairlane station wagon. Film always seemed torn between a green or magenta color cast. This cast would have worked out about right if the light had been a little warmer. You are one of the few to capture the elusive hormonal plank. I have never seen that or the green flash. Love the old wood and the old film.

How strange that this old homestead is or was about 1/2 mile north of Jenner and back from Rt. 1 about 50 yards. We had a home on Goat Rock Rd across the Russian River from Jenner. I loved that area. I've spent an hour or two at the Maritime Museum in Astoria many years ago. Is it any bigger now.

Carol please help because I don't know what a "hormonal plank" is or was. I can't find it in 3 dictionaries I've tried. Is this something that those elusive "snipes" run on

Nice composition other than the blured fence board, it would have been nicer maybe to be a little farther back to include more of the fence.

Not bad color for an old kodachrome. I know I have met some limitations scanning also.

A very dramatic find, Charlie. Good shot.
I share some good pieces of advice...

Charlie, I don't know if the museum is larger now. It has not been enlarged during the 5 years or so that I have lived here. I recently visited a tattoo exhibit that visited for a while. That was pretty interesting. Also, the wooden dock where the lightship is berthed is being replaced with a concrete pier soon.

Based on my scans from Kodachrome slides you've done a nice job of getting the colors correct. I like the strongly angled roof line, it keeps my eyes moving.

I wonder what this building looks like now - about 30 years later!
