Taken this past spring in Ohio at Matthew Studebaker's workshop. This bird gave us quite the show and finally got into a position that I liked where he started calling. We set this up with a speaker and iPod call to get him in close. I just wish the tail were in focus and he was angle more toward the camera. Kept battling the low light and shutter speed.

Canon 1D Mk4
Canon 600mm f/4
ISO 640, 1/400 @ f/5.6, Eval +2/3, AvMode
LR 3.3, sharpen, de-sat reds, grad filter applied

Bryan, this is really nice! I understand what you are saying about the tail being out of focus, but this image has so much going for it: interesting subject, action, great perch... IMHO that more than makes up for the OOF tail! :toast:

Really nice singing pose and I like the composition as well. OOF tail does not bother me. You might consider cloning out some of the small branch next to the birds right foot, looks somewhat unnatural like it was cut off. Just a minor nit though. Well done. :toast:

Very nice as posted. A striking color palette, a fine capture and strong composition. As you note, the OOF tail is a nit, but I agree it's relatively minor in this strong a photo.

Bryan, this is really nice. Excellent colors and the singing pose more than make up for the tail not being 100% in focus. The bird's head and eye look like the real thing right in front of me. I also like the 2 layered leaves on the second lowest branch. Sharon

Nice pose and detail in most of the bird. The bright berries were a good choice for the set-up - contrast well with the bird.
