Ponderosa and Maple

Inspired by Harley's recent post, I thought I'd present my take on this theme.

I'm always drawn to the juxtaposition of the bigtooth maple leaves and the trunks of the ponderosa pine trees. But it takes a lot of looking around to find an appealing composition.

That's really nice, Jim. Wonder and intense fall color. There seems to be a bit of cyan in the leaf highlights, which is natural, but still noticeable.

Beautifully composed scene Jim. I love the varying colors of leaves throughout. My only nit might be that when I saw the thumbnail my initial reaction was that the image looked a little strong on the magenta side, and when I clicked on the larger image it looked to my eye like even the bark of the tree trunk had a little magenta to it. I'll readily admit I don't see this type of foliage that much, we mostly get shades of yellow in Colorado so take this comment with a grain of salt.

The search for these kind of scenes is indeed tough sometimes, but it's also super fun to do. I like it, Jim! A lot to study and admire here.

Jim - You have a fine comp here. Your looking around at this paid off-sweet intimate shot. I would agree with Scott's comment about the magenta/red cast throughout. It may be the reflected light that accounts for this, so I don't know if you would want to try and reduce it. Selectively reduceing in the trunck and grasses may make the leafs pop even more-so. May be a difficult selection, or a careful layer paint/erase. :toast:

I really like the way you've composed this, and you're right, finding an appealing comp can be darn difficult in these situations. Beautiful array of colors and Ilike the way they transition left to right (or right to left  ).

Some beautiful eye-popping color, Jim! I would agree with the comments about the magenta on the tree trunk (sounds familiar, doesn't it?), but otherwise, image looks great. Wonderful array of reds.

Jim, you did an excellent job extracting this composition in my opinion. I appreciate the natural colors and the details in the bark. The magenta cast is not a big matter for me, as it obviously derives from the reflection.

Beautiful array of red tones in the leaves, Jim, in an outstanding composition. Love the contrast in textures between the leaves and the bark of the ponderosa.

Excellent composition, superb details and amazing color, Jim! I agree with others that it could stand to be warmed up somewhat but otherwise it's awesome!

Beautiful, Jim! This is a more intimate fall scenic. Well composed and
the various red tones are lovely. The tree trunk is a nice anchoring point,
and the pine needles add texture and lines composed diagonally.
