Drip, drip, drool

The Tetons are a great place for both scenery and wildlife. Sometimes you just have to cruise the roads to find something to watch and photograph.

Coming around a corner on Moose-Wilson road, there was a cow moose in one of the ponds beside the road. There were already quite a few people standing around, with all types of cameras. She kept right on eating until someone wanted through and kept honking (#&@jerk).

It was late day and the moose was in shadow, so I had to use ISO 400 and then remove the blue cast in post.

I think you did a good job salvaging the difficult lighting with your processing. The orientation of the moose in relation to your perspective suggests a vertical might have been nice, allowing inclusion of the feet into the water and water texture. The lines of water streaming from her face give an indication of vertical, so I think a slight rotation tweak will look even better.

I love the detail on the moose and the dripping of the water here Margaret. I do echo Lon's comment about the vertical composition though and must add that I am particularly bothered by that clipped off ear top and the washed out water behind the moose. Reverting back to the RAW file and trying to reduce the exposure on that water may still be a solution. Is this FF as posted?

PS: I couldn't help noticing your far below average post to comment ratio and would like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute more to these forums by also commenting and providing constructive feedback on other people's work. ultimately the success of all the galleries are determined largely by the comments members leave on the images that are posted. If you're unsure or uneasy about commenting/"critiquing" there are several good resources on this website discussing it. Start right here:

and you'll find links to the the image posting guidelines and two articles on critiquing ("The Art of Image Critique" and "More Thoughts on Photo Critique.").

I think shooting wide open did wonders here ! Love the dripping look and the silky blue water. The composition feels a little cramped, but thats subjective.

No, its actually pretty objective  the top is too cut off. But i love the drip from the moose, it reminds me of Moose Drool, a real fine dark beer...
