Great-crested Grebe

by Oscar Dewhurst

Gallery: Regional: UKNPPosted November 15, 2011218 views9 comments
This is another from this year. This Grebe was fishing in one of the lakes at the LWC. The colour of the water is due to the trees behind the lake reflecting in it.

Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 200-400
Resting on boardwalk
F5.6
1/160s
ISO 500

I think John is right, slightly darker will help bring out the detail in the whites, which does appear to be there. Am I right in thinking it has caught a perch?

A beauty! Love the splashes which appear to be caused by the fish struggling? A wee bit tight in the frame.

Nice one, Oscar. I like the angle and the intimacy. Fine as is.

Hot action and good exposure. The slow SS creates a unique look but hurt sharpness

Nicely timed Oscar. I'd like a little more room around the bird but otherwise a nice behavioural shot.

Love the fish action here Oscar also like the reflections. A little more room around the bird would help
