Glowing Snail

I imagine this will go down like a lead balloon but all feedback is appreciated.

At this time of year macro opportunities are obviously limited but I recently saw this very small snail on a sunflower leaf and noticed that its shell and body were slightly translucent. By changing the angle of the leaf slightly I was able to get the sun shining through the snail to create this 'glowing' effect. I might be imagining it but I swear it was smiling at me...

Canon 60D with Canon 60mm macro lens, f9, 1/500, ISO 400.

Very nicely done Matt - it's certainly a unique view of a snail! The patterns on the shell are great

Perhaps just a touch more light underneath - say from a distant reflector - to give a greater hint of the leaf the snail is on.

One slight problem... its a snail... I have to photograph soooo many snail shells...

A Unique and well observed image that for me would maybe have benefited from a touch more DoF but that is minor...

Hmm, I do like the snail, but I feel the black "perch" distracts too much. Well worth experimenting further though.

i like it too, brilliant idea, i sort of feel there might be an even better image from this idea somewhere, lots of options available, i wonder how a darker background would work, i think Nick's idea of lighting the leaf from below too might be interesting. An inspiring image.

Many thanks for the feedback, all appreciated. I was also in two minds about the darkness of the leaf so think a bit more light might be needed.
