Electric Sky

Here's another image from my Grand Canyon trip last August. This is taken from Cape Royal on the North Rim during a very active monsoon storm at dusk. Lots of lightning! I took several exposures trying to capture lightning bolts. Two of my shots were successful so I put both lightning bolts into one frame. The lightning was happening about every minute or so. Quite an evening!

Canon 5DMII, 24-70mm @ 40mm, 30 sec. f/22, ISO 100 (Tech same for both images.)

Pretty sweet, Phil! I think i liked the RMNP version better even with the brighter corner, since the fg detail was more evident in that one--here its kind of dark. But its an awesome display all the way round! :wavey:

Thanks, Stan! This one is from a slightly different angle than the one I posted in RMNP and its from later in the evening. It was getting pretty dark by this time so I wanted to leave the photo darker to reflect that. Looks good when viewed in a dark room!

Definitely captures the drama of the canyon, Phillip. Agree with Stan that the foreground seems a bit dark, but the focus really is on the sky and lightening, so it's not a big deal.

Oh this is nice. I like the separation of the lightning bolts in this compared to the one you posted on the RMNP forum. The colors don't look as saturated as well which helps keep this looking natural. Makes me wish it was still summer so I can keep shooting the monsoon up there. Very well done.

Wonderful capture of this event and place. I would try to blend a little more fore/mid ground detail into image. Very nice.
