maple & pine

I found some colorful maple leaves floating among pine needles in a pond near home (New Hampshire) about 2 weeks ago. It was raining lightly, and I had to wade knee deep for this composition. I'm not sure what created the dark shadows on the left hand side - could be me leaning over the camera or an overhanging tree branch. Does anyone have a good/simple technique for eliminating unwanted reflections in such a situation?

Nikon F100, tripod
Nikkor 80-400mm with 5T close-up lens
circular polarizer, 81B warming filter, Velvia

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark
There is a lot going on in this composition, but I think you have managed to frame the image in such a way that the image works quite well. I’d agree with your own opinion in that the dark reflections distract from the overall effect of the shot, which is a shame because I feel you would have a very strong pleasing image without these. I would love to be able to help with a suggestion for the removal of these reflections, but my limited photoshop skills certainly would not extend to this level.

Thanks for sharing
And best regards
Matthew

Matthew has said much what I was going to say. Might be worth carrying a small black umbrella for shading, and keeping the rain off the camera.

I love this and wouldn't change a thing. I feel as though I am seeing it in person. Sometimes it is the imperfections that make an image perfect. Well noticed and captured.

Mark,

Excellent!!!!! Great job with the composition using those green grass blades to frame the shot. That Velvia sure provided some eye-popping colors and the 80-400 produced an amazingly sharp image, well done. :toast: :toast: :toast:

Thanks for the comments, folks. I like this image, especially because I worked hard to get it, but was disappointed at first to see the darker shadows on the chrome. Always useful to get different perspectives.
