Hi Charley, At first I didn't realize this was the coloration and patterns of a moth. Well seen and shot.
Would you tell us more about this shot, please. I went to smugmug, hoping for more information, but couldn't find the image.
Hope all is well in your world.
Regards,
Carol
PS Thanks for the additional info, Charlie.

This is a portion of the wings of the Polyphemus moth, Antheraea polyphemus. We have seen these every year since living here (10 years) and they fly to our garage lights in July. They are a very beautiful moth and sit still for photos as long as I approach slow and quiet. They are quite large, up to 5 1/2 inches wingspan. I shot this image in 2009 with Olympus E-520, 50mmmacro at 1/100 sec @ F11.

Excellent detail on wings and surely a nice idea for a close-up shot- It should be great having a closer view on that eye- Well done, Fabio

A very mysterious watcher. The eyeball effect is great.

These moths are truly gorgeous, Charlie. We found one in our back yard several years ago, and the children were enchanted! :) I like the close-up of this one because the eye-spot patterns on the wings are so striking. Nice shot!

I had the same excitement as your kids, the first time I saw one of these, Varina. I thought at that time that I had found something rare but was glad to find that they return each year.
