Starfish X-ray

Not sure if this fits here so moderators, feel free to move if appropriate.

This image was created by taking an x-ray of a (dead) starfish, photographing the film on a lightbox, and then darkening the background in PSE9. Radiography is in many ways like photography, and I have enjoyed imaging non-conventional objects such as this. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Tonia,

Totally fine with me to post this here! I love how this image shows the beautiful symmetry of the star-fish - could be easy to mistake this for an extreme close-up of a snowflake. And, I like the extreme contrast provided by your darkening of the background to a featureless black. When I look at the larger version I THINK the image could benefit from a little more sharpening, but hard to say this for sure without seeing the full-size original. If this image were mine I'd be tempted to level it out a little more and I think I'd go with a square crop...but those are minor details and the image is very appealing as posted.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Very unusual Tonia and I think it works very well! I don't feel you could compose this offset and not make it look off.....so the presentation works for me also! Very nicely done!

very nice, Tonia :toast: ; I think I'd try and sharpen it a little too, but I still like it as is
