The Poppy family

My first attempt at hand HDR. I was trying for a semi-transparent look to the petals. I shot three exposures at varying shutter speeds against a white background. Then blended them using layers and layer masks in Elements 9. The foreground texture is a piece of scanned rice paper and the frame is from Jerry Jones. I've been reading Harold Davis' wonderful books. Your comments, suggestions/critiques would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Dave

I have never tried HDR, but I can comment on the end result. Very striking composition! Love the semi pano concept which exagerates the height of the poppies making a dramatic statement. Also like the effect the rice paper gives to the image. An all around winner!

Lovely comp and I do see that semi-transparent look, David. My only suggestion would be to consider cloning out the tiny bit of green leaf in the lower rhs. The flowers appear to even be close like a family. Nice work.

I love the composition and think this would make a great B&W, I too would evict the tiny piece of leaf at the edge. Nicely done.

Ditto to all of Patricia's comments. This is absolutely gorgeous. I could easily see this huge on a wall.

Dave, Your composition is delightful. For HDR images, I do think you need to shoot your images by bracketing your exposures.
