Dead stump mushroom

A mushroom grows out of a dead tree stump. We have had lots more mushrooms appearing this year due to all the rain we have had. This one looks like a satellite dish for the forest elves to me.

Canon Rebel T1i. 90mm macro lens. F/29 for 4 sec. ISO 100. Black velvet fabric placed behind stump to get depth of field. (Haven't learned stacking yet.)

It's been a great year for mushrooms in my neck of the woods too Carolyn. Wonderful job using your camera to capture all this great detail with one shot. It stands out great against the black fabric and I like the way the mushrooms seems to glow. Did you use any flash?

Beautiful, sharp details and nice bg choice. what an interesting subject, growing out of the center of the stump. Good eye to see this. Very nice image.

Thanks for your comments, John and Nancy.
John, I don't recall using flash on this. It was a fairly bright day and although this was in the shade, the 4 sec. exposure allowed adequate light for this photo.

Great that you saw this. As you say mushrooms are such good subjects and their season has arrived. I love that old stump with moss and age. You've got a real good one here Carolyn.

Carolyn, I love how this mushroom almost glows against the darker stump and background. It's also sharp from the gills to the back. Great job on this capture!

Well done, Carolyn! What great light - and such a beautiful subject! The black background works perfectly here! I wouldn't change a thing!

Great sharpness and a nice point of view. A bit big in the frame for my taste but other than that a lovely capture.
