I really loike this bird, we have one visit the pond in our garden ocasionally but I never get a chance for a shot like this. This one was perched on top a drowned tree on the edges of Lake Kariba, taken from the shore of Rhino Island, Matusadona, Zimbabwe 18th September 2011.

Really like the relatively unique pose Ken. I think the "textures" in the background (presumably the lake) are so much more interesting than plain blue sky. I like the perch and the bird looks good. Your camera settings don't look so strange to me, I often choose a fast shutter speed even for perched birds to prepare for the unexpected...

Thanks for comments much appreciated, I agree that the waters of the lake for a very good BG, now all I need is one with the water coloured by a sunset.
