At the pond

We saw these elephants at the end of our day in Tanzania, but it was too dark to photograph them. We took a chance that they would still be there early the next morning, and were rewarded with a whole herd. The sun was very low (about 7am), providing great light.

It was fun watching the elephants approach and drink. There were several babies in the group as well (will post later).

This is a lovely natural scene Margaret. I like the vibrant greens, the warm light and the clarity. Somehow I do wish there would be more room on top. Personally I seem to have a problem in many cases with backgrounds where the trees are cut, wishing to see the tops. Note that this is just my personal perception and that such BG's don't bother the majority of viewers, so don't take it too seriously. It probably has to do with me liking trees. .

It must have been nice having them by the water like that. I have wished for that on my trips, but rarely been given the chance.

I would have liked a little more space around, especially above the elephants and to the right. As both of them are facing that way i'd like some space for them to look/move into.
Nice reflections and the vegetation looks great. Good detail as well (could have been impreciated even more if a larger version was included).

I think this is a striking image and I like the poses and rich colors, especially the water reflections. I, too, think it would be even better if the camera were pointed slightly more right and up.

Update. Here is a different crop on the elephants. It shows more space to the right, as well as some sky at the top (for you, Vincent). It's frequently a difficult decision where to draw the lines of a crop. I think the suggestions help in analyzing the final cut. Thanks.

Margaret,

What a wonderful image, great light and the water in the foreground adds so much, IMHO the more open repost works better, when you have great environment you should use it :toast: :toast: :toast:
