Smoky Mountain Gem

This is a spot on the Tennessee side of the GSMNP that has been photographed before, but I wanted an image of my own. I visited the spot on the first day of my 3-day trip only to find low water levels and less than ideal conditions. Luckily the last day was a full day of rain and brought the water level up enough to get a decent image. Hope you like it.

I included a large version, but had to compress it quite a bit. Still, the details are better than in the smaller version.

C&C are welcomed and put to use.

Thanks!

The near trees make a nice natural frame for the image. The soft lighting creates a perfect mood. I prefer the mix of green in the mid trees, breaks up the color and adds some depth. Maybe a slightly slow shutter speed for me, would like to see a little more detail in the image. Maybe a higher ISO some as not to sacrifice DOF? Sweet autumn shot.

A classic! I might consider a slight crop from the top to remove the brighter parts of the sky.

I like how you used the trees as a natural frame here. Great fall foliage, perfect shutter speed, great colors - I especially love the greens among those autumn colors. Well composed. :toast:

Joseph, I especially like the framing in your composition and the way you lead me through the image. Exposure and processing are perfect to my eye. Furthermore I enjoy the delightful details in the larger version.

Beautiful scene, Joseph. I like your composition with the perspective of the cascade. The variety of color is also a strength of this image. I think this could use a slight curves adjustment to boost contrast / saturation. It wouldn't take much as a slight adjustment could really make this stand out.

You had excellent color for this, Joseph, and nice soft light. The upper areas feel a bit overexposed. Darkening the top would enhance the color drama, I think.

I remember some of the other photos from this spot, and this new angle is nice. I do like Tony's idea; just a little more color richness back there would add.

Really nice shot with great elements and balance. As others have stated, a slight crop from the top would work, but I would like either way.

Nice composition Joseph. I like how you used the two tree trunks to frame the scene. The fall colors look excellent.
