Brown-eared Bulbul II

This was one of two Brown-eared Bulbuls (see previous post) that I shot on a school field trip to a park in Seoul. I was working so I had to get shots before I was missed. As it turns out, the Brown-eared Bulbul is not uncommon in Korea, where it is known as Chinpan. It is also common in Japan, where they are thought of as pests to farmers. They are a migratory bird (south for the winter), but may stay in an area further north if food (such as crops) is available to them. They are named brown-eared, though it is their cheeks that are brown. I believe I shall need to return to this park soon when I can spend some time with my head in the trees to get some more pictures.

Canon EOS 60D
Lens: Sigma DG 120-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 APO OS HSM
Focal Length: 273mm

Comments and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.

Good pose, head turn and eye glint. The intense blue could be turned down and the luminance turned up.

The bird itself here is very nice. Excellent view of the eye, which is very sharp. The color though is over saturated and there is some intense haloing around the bird and the limb which I suspect is from shadow/highlight correction. The bird makes it worth rework.

Thank you Phil and Angela for your kind advice and generous support. I too thought the haloing was coming from the shadow/ highlight enhancement in PSE9, but turns out it was more from the clarity control in LR3. Also, desaturating the blues helped with the intensity and some blue chromatic aberration.

Oops! OK then, you can ignore the question I asked again on your previous thread as to which country you found this Bulbul in, should have looked at this one first - LOL ;^)

Very nice shot Mark, the over-the-shoulder look works nicely and the second version is a remarkable improvement on the original. Looking forward to seeing more :^)
