I had a request for posting more of a portrait of this species during my last post of the tanager and euphonia together. So here it is, this is from the same location, Rancho Suamox in Ecuador, the birds are attracted here by bananas which were are placed out for them. This is about 65% of the original image.

Nice exposure as this does not look like a fill flash shot and interesting specs (tripod, chair), good job in getting this, well done.

Thanks for your comments Ray, David and Jim. A couple of people have commented on the chair, when I'm shooting at feeders or water drips I am almost always sitting down if I'm not in a blind. The reason is that you are much more likely to scare off birds when you are standing up, the 2 things that animals and birds most recognize humans as are our heads and the upright standing form (because we are the only animal that stands upright on a regular basis).

This is one beautiful Tanager Nate, in fact all the different and beautiful tanager species in Ecuador are mind blowing. Excellent feather detail, nice work with the fill flash. Sweet One

Interesting and beautiful coloration here, Nate. The perch is thick for the size of bird. However, it has enough texture to be interesting and I like how the bird's body aligns with the branch. Wonderful detail. I wish we had birds like this around here! Fine shot.

Very nice image here, Nate. I especially like that frayed feather just over the left leg. Reveals lots of great detail there.
