I know at first sight, you would think this is not a photo, but these are Lake Ice Abstract images taken in the landscape of the Yukon arctic region.
While on my Yukon Sub-Arctic expedition to photograph the northern lights, during the day, Colin and I were exploring the lakes in the mountain range that were partially frozen. It was something I had not done before. It was very interesting to explore the different air pockets and air bubbles that froze while in motion, or in the case would freeze just under the surface of the lake ice.
I found some interesting shapes that reminded me of the Arctic Inuit Culture that has existed in the arctic for thousands of years. I wondered if this ancient culture would also do the same, and may have influenced their art as well
The first image is a "Salmon eating a fish egg"
It was also erie walking around while the ice made large "cracking" sounds !!!
I was considering making a series of these for a new gallery project up here in Whistler.
I was not sure whether to keep them blue lake ice, or B&W conversions.
I would like to get the opinion of members here.
PS, no organic substances were used on this Vision Quest

25 commentsColor or B&W? Can't tell since I have not seen conversions, but these blue shots look perfect.
I must go cook up some frozen fish now...
I had the opportunity to work on 2 ice bubble images from the same lakes on this trip :) I guess Darwin Wiggett is known for his ice bubbles on Abraham Lake in Alberta.
Sarah,
Thanks for the kind words, I am also looking forward to hanging out soon
The first and second are my favorites.
