Shady Cove

After descending the ridge where I shot my last M&N post, I noticed the Sun backlighting the autumn leaves at the canoe put-in (you have to paddle three miles to get to the trailhead). Since we were busy carrying our boats to a lower section of the river to get to the pond by dark for our paddle back to camp, I just grabbed a quick shot of this scene. I found something to steady the camera for a "semi-handheld" shot.

In post-processing, I had trouble getting detail above the trees, with lots of branches reaching into the sky. I gave up on the sky and cropped for this panoramic view. I think it was a good decision.

Canon 50D
Sigma 17-70; Circ. Polarizer
f/4.5 @ 1/100 sec.

Great decision Wayne, but you knew that..The only thing i find distracting and don't know why is the canoe reflection. Silly I know, but something about it draws and holds my eye there and detracts from the beauty occuring behind. I'd still trade you for this shot anyday... :toast:

Ruddy brilliant! looks like a Kincaid painting! Man, I hope you drug the canoe out of the way for a shot, too!

That is exquisite Wayne. The fall color is the stuff I dream of running into. The pano crop works perfectly. The only thing I think would improve it a bit would be if the life vests weren't there; they compete with the fall color.

Thanks guys. Good ideas about the canoe and stuff in it, but it was not mine. I was just passing by, carrying my canoe on my way the downstream launch, while the onwers of this one were up on the shore, getting ready to head the other way. (Ships passing in the night.) This was really a quick grab shot, but I'll take it.

Beautiful shot with gorgeous fall colors. The canoe is a great addition and I like that it's not the standard bow in the center of the foreground shot. I find myself debating whether I'd like to see the complete canoe reflection or cut it off even more and I'm leaning towards less canoe reflection, maybe with a small crop from the right to maintain the format.

A beautiful scene, Wayne and the canoe and it's reflection are a real selling point. They make the photo stand out from other similar photos. Sorry you clipped the reflection.

Carol

You certainly captured the essence of fall here, Wayne. The way the tree trunks and limbs arc over the water and then picked up by refleciton really creates a lot of depth.

Wayne, you have captured a very nice glow emanating from around the bend. My only suggestion would be to have adjusted the canoe so it is not so tilted on its keel and have less of the inside showing; but you say this was a quick grab (and a nice one at that).
