Taken at Croton Park in fall 2009. This hawk was perched on a tree by the side of the road. Flew down to the ground and hunted for a few minutes in a gully. Unable to find it's prey she flew up to this stalk for another view. Could only stay on the perch for a few seconds before flying off. Wild bird, not baited. Nikon D300s with 300mm f2.8+1.4 tc. ISO-640, f5.6, S-1/1000. cropped for composition. Thanks for looking critique always welcomed. Ray

Just perfect, Ray. Well seen, well timed with just the right hint of motion in the wings and great detail elsewhere. The whites are good and the detail is outstanding. Hard to believe you caught this at 1/100 of a second. You had to be on a tripod. :toast:

Thanks Phil, sorry I dropped a "0" that was 1/1000.

Great action shot. The head, body, and feet are very sharp. The slightly blurred wingtips help add a sense of motion to the shot. I'd suggest cropping a little less tightly on the left side if you can. Congrats!

Excellent timing to capture this landing Ray. The background works well to highlight the hawk's coloration and the concentration evident in the bird's eye adds great tension to the image.
