Standing Alone

The rodent-like appearance of this old snag has always seemed more than just coincidental to me. He watches over a rock outcrop that literally teems with marmots. I really like the unique image he presents but have had trouble seperating him from a bg of forested slopes. Last week, a heavy mornign fog solved that issue for me (I think) Anyway, thanks for looking. Comments appreciated

Yup, the fog did it, nice separation from the BG. Interesting, lonely old snag. Lots of character!

The perfect conditions to make this work - that blue fog to isolate that subject. The warm glow helps too of course. Sweet work.

Neat idea, Lea. The snag really takes center stage here.

Not only the composition, but the elements also work very well to isolate that snag and keep the attention there. Nice color and texture, as well as form there.

Nancy, your composition characterizes this unique snag perfectly to me. The elements at the bottom allow to anchore the subject well and lighting conditions let me discern delightful details of the texture. This warming glow is wonderfully contrasted by the fog in the distance. Very nice capture and processing in my opinion.

Yeah, I agree with everyone. Great move heading out in the fog to capture this!
(However, when I looked at this, I did not see a rodent -- I saw an old, battle-scarred dinosaur looking for a crutch. I kind of identified with it! )

Nice work Nancy. At first I thought the comp was too centered but having looked at it for awhile I think it works very well.......maybe a little more room at the top but that's very nit-picky.

Nice photo Nancy. I think you've done a good job of seperating your subject from the BG. There seem to be several dust spots and a slight halo around the tree. :toast:
