The lighting and colors are fantastic. Could use some sharpening to make the veins in the leaves more prominent.

Great colors and comp, Todd. For this shot a smaller aperture may have been helpful to get all in focus. The "valleys: seem to be more in focus than the "ridges". If you make the closest part of the picture in focus and have a smaller aperture such as F/22 for this it would probably be all in focus which I think would work best for this photo IMO.
You have some wonderful images you have been posting lately but I often feel they could benefit from more sharpening. Do you do any sharpening in post processing? Might be worth playing around with to make your photos even better.
You have a good eye for finding interesting images, Todd!

Todd: I do like the comp, color and lighting a lot. The lack of sharpness caught my eye immediately though. Not sure if this is a capture phenomenon or a processing issue. What lens are you using? One thing I do almost compulsively at macro distances is use my DOF preview. My camera allows me to make focusing and aperture changes while looking through the viewfinder to see the effects of changing DOF and POF. Not sure if the 7D has that feature but you might want to play around with it to find out. >=))>

Hmm maybe I picked the wrong one (I have about five shots of this) in my haste to post before I left the house. Bill Im using a 180mm tamron. I will post another one to see if its better.

Other than the OOF issue, I like the composition, and thought process in putting this together.

Todd: The repost is significantly better IMO. I still might like a touch more DOF but the sharpness of the center leaf looks much improved. At this scale and working distance with a 180 you might have to use f16 or even f22 to get both center veins sharp as well as manipulating your plane of focus for maximum DOF. I still like the comp and lighting a bunch. >=))>

Todd:
Fabulous repost. The sharpness is noticeably improved. Still wish for more DOF to get the lower leaf was just as sharp.
