Horrible BG on this, but I have done as best as I could, by cropping most of it out.

Taken on Dikdik drive Etosha National Park, Namibia, 29th June 2011

EOS 1D MkIII

70-200mm at 142

F5.6, ISO 400, 1/640

Great portrait, Ken. A lovable appearing animal and those eyelashes and big eyes. How can those big cats eat such a sweety?

Charlie,

Thanks for your comments, these are so small that I think they are in little danger from cats except perhaps Leopard, more danger would come from large Raptors like Marshall Eagles, hence their preference for staying in the bushes.

I am reminded of a question I got once as to their purpose in the greater scheme of things, I responded " to make me smile".

Not the best of backgrounds indeed Ken, but what a striking facial expression you captured here! That little snout and the way it is looking at you with those big eyes is making up for that BG. You managed to get very close to this little fellow.

Vincent,

Thanks very much for your comments, sometimes they just stand there looking at you, and I was lucky this time.

Cute little character and I love those BIG eyes complete with the long lashes! Background's not really an issue for me Ken, thanks for sharing :^)

This really works for me Ken. Background isn't all that bad, although I could conjure up something better. The photo makes for a wonderful study of the head details, love the little horns - I wouldn't want to underestimate their potential for harm, placed in the right "soft spot".
