Standing In Silence

A cold and quiet morning somewhere above 9,000 ft. Tioga Lake, just below the east entrance to Yosemite. I actually like the abscence of any clouds here. What do you think? I'd love to hear your thoughts. larger version included.

Very clean, Chris. I can almost feel the chill in the air. I agree that the lack of clouds actually improves the image here.

Love the palette of blues in this image. I agree that this works well without having clouds. Also, excellent reflection on a glass smooth lake. Was this taken after last weeks storm? - Peter

Hi Chris, This is beautiful. I also like the no clouds here. The glass smooth reflection is wonderful and I love the clear, crisp feel this has. Very nice work! :toast:

I too can feel the chill in the air here Chris but I like the warm streaks of light on the distant mountain peaks. Beautiful clarity and symmetry.

I'm getting kind of bored with the perfect shots you keep posting . . . I have simply no criticisms or suggestions for improvement. The same is true for this one. Beautiful in a classic sort of way.

But it aint perfect, Phil--it's an uncomfortable 9/16 split as opposed to 8/16. Which may sound super picky but i assure you our eyes pick up the difference. Plus, cropping the bottom would have the added benefit of nixing those unnecessary and distracting rocks on the bottom. Hey Chris--did i mention that i really like this shot?

How the hockeysticks did you learn to tame water so calm
The definition of serenity. Great work and clouds would have ruined its purity.
Well done Chris

I really like the clear pristine beauty to this. I like the subtle shapes of the rocks at the bottom too.

Thank you Folks!

Peter, yes, it was taken Saturday morning, so technically 2 days after the storm.

Phil, thank you, I appreciate that.

Stan, Thanks, I appreciate the attention to the details and high standard you demand from us. But everyone has thier own way of seeing imperfection or balance. To my eye, there is nothing uncomfortable about the split. That doesn't mean it isn't to you or others. I also see the subtle forms of the submerged rocks as a plus to the overall image, and cause for the not perfect split. I could see your point if they were big obtrusive foreground boulders, but they are quite unobtrusive to my eye. But, I could easily see this working as a perfect split too. I just thought things below the horizon were slightly more appealing than that above, so.... Thanks, I'm glad you really like the shot!

Sweet and simple Chris. A little haloing above the peaks maybe  but easily corrected - maybe just the sharpening. Love the rocks peaking through the bottom to ground the shot. I might prefer a little off the top to adda slight bit of tension without disrupting the nice symmetry you have. Looks like winter has begun again out there.

9/16 and 8/16ths aside, this turned out really well. Nice reflection and symmetry.
