Pano Elk

This is another image from the Waterton elk rut. Because of the rain there was very slow shutter speeds, which added a nice effect when I followed him with the camera. I am really happy with the way it turned out!

I was wondering what you thought about the crop; should I keep it like this or crop out the cow on the left?

Thanks for viewing and commenting!

I like the pano crop and the way the bull stands out from the lighter vegetation colors. If you lose the left cow, I think you will have cut off too much and the bull's rump will be too close to the edge and would maybe lose the sense of the bull moving across the slope that the pano crop gives.

Jenaya,

I like the pano crop, I might just consider cropping a bit more off of the left side of the frame; leaving the cow in though to make the bull seem a little more off center. It is unfortunate about the white area (bleached wood?) being in front of the bull's nose. Must have been neat to hear him calling.

I like the inclusion of the habitat here Jenaya and for that reason I wish to see more of it; in other words, I am not too sure if the pano crop is the best presentation for this image. What works less well for me is the fact that the bull is angling away from you. I am sure if the bull were running parallel or angling slightly towards you, I would be appreciating this a lot more. Note that these are merely my views of this, the most important thing is that you are pleased with it as it is your image  .

Vincent took the words out of my mouth, Jenaya...I would have liked to see more space on top, especially above the TRC cow who is hard to discern with the current crop.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Morkel, you suggested more room on top. I agree, but this was the best I could do. In the original image the sky was pretty bright and distracting, so I cropped as close as I could without getting the sky in there.

Mia, you suggested cropping a bit from the left to have the bull a bit more off center. I will work on a repost with that crop and see if it works. I agree that the bleached wood is a little distracting, and would love if it wasn't there, but I guess it doesn't always work out perfectly .

Vincent, you suggested I should show more habitat. I chose this pano crop because I thought it helped with showing just the bull and his two cows. I will look at the image again and see if there is anything I can do with the crop. However, I am not sure I can include both the cows and the bull without the pano crop. I will try my best, though.

Thanks again!

I'm good with your composition Jenaya, pano and all. The bull is sharp but the rest of the image is soft, appears you may have been panning as he moved. I like the effect. Interesting landscape with the other elk in the scene as well. The bright wood in front of the bull's nose was something I noticed as well. Nice work! :toast:
