Olympic Coast Abstract

I took this about an hour after sunset at Beach 4 on Washington's Olympic peninsula, at the end of a long, rainy, frustrating day. I consider this image my reward for sticking it out.

This image is almost straight out of the camera — I lightened the sky to achieve more contrast with the water, and boosted global saturation just a little. Critiques most definitely welcome!

60 sec, f/11, ISO 100

Canon 7D, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 @ 12mm

First thing that comes to mind: ZEN
I do like this minimalistic image of the sea.

Thx for sharing

A study in blue. Very restful. Good contrast and placement of the rocks in relation to the rest of the image. A fitting reward for your patience.

Very Zen indeed! I really like this, it needs to be viewed large to truly appreciate it though, I think it would make a great print! :toast:

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. The zen comments are nice to hear, as I had one of those moments while I was capturing this that I'm sure we all experience from time to time as we're out shooting, where I felt very connected to the scene I was recording. There's something about standing in the dark at the edge of the world's largest ocean that can make you feel so insignificant, and yet very much a part of the vastness of the universe.

Jorne, I did make a 16x20 canvas print of this for a recent show, and I had to convince several people that it was not an oil painting! In fact, one person didn't believe me until I showed him a smaller matted print of this image that I had on hand.
