Grand Tetons at Sunrise

Here's a rather iconic Tetons scene at sunrise. I was headed to one of the overlooks further south, but the fog in the valley eliminated that possibility, so I worked back north to get above the fog and quickly find a scene that worked before I lost color. Got this one with the fence along the left side. Please view the larger version for more detail.

Great light on the clouds and peaks. I can see that the location of the aspen would make it problematic to move further left, but I'd like to have more fence to balance the open space in the right FG. Nice work reacting to conditions and finding this view above the fog. Was this a recent trip? I was just out there too.

Gorgeous sky color wick. I also like the hint of color in the trees.

Sean,
That's what I hate about having to set down quickly and attempt a composition without full consideration. I could have gotten more fence in the scene by backing up considerably, but I didn't want to lose the detail of the mountains and the fog in the valley. I was out there from Sept 17 - 24 along with a ton of other photographers. Too bad those aspens are waiting so long this year to turn!

Great color and nice job of quickly adapting to conditions. I just got back Friday night from a few days down there. We had more color in the trees but didn't see a cloud in the sky the whole time and the Forest Service decided it was a good time for a controlled burn. The whole valley was full of smoke haze every morning. So you did real well both with your timing being there and with execution of this image.

Lovely light, colors, sky and comp. A little more of the fence might have been nice but I like how it leads into the frame drawing my eyes into the sweeping view.

Spectacular vista! Great job catching the light and being flexible. Sometimes we have a plan in our head and are determined to stick with it no matter what. I good decision to move on. I'm not sure if moving to the right would have been an option and angling yourself to the left. Maybe more mnts., but less fence? The fog simplifies the image in a good way. :toast:
