Reflections on loss

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted September 27, 201196 views6 comments
This is a reflection image turned upside down. It is meant to convey the disappearing lodgepole pines in Colorado which are going away a layer at a time. This due to the pine bark beetle infestations.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

This worked out really well Morris. Fine fit for the weekly challenge.

Nice shot Morris and a fitting image for the challenge. Beetle infestations are a sad thing. Here in the NW we have a beetle (I forget which type) descimating a lot of wilderness......entire vistas of gray dead snags, especially in central Oregon. I saw a lot of it on my trip down there last summer. A pretty hard thing to eradicate I suppose.

Yes, Bruce, it is very sad here. My grandchildren will experience a very different Colorado than I have in my time here. Interesting to see what the future holds. Sorry to hear you have a similar problem. I wish someone could find a solution.

Lots of pine beetle damage in the lower elevations here in Montana also, but luckily not much evidence of it in Yellowstone (supposedly the harsh winters keep the beetles in check). Lovely abstract (in spite of the subject) with the blue and yellow and an escher like blending of the two. Congrats for standing on your head to make the shot!

I really like the gold-blue contrast, and your idea of flipping it works well.

Beautiful abstract with very complimentary colors. Two weeks of temperatures below -20F would go along ways to reducing the infestation. We just haven't been getting that lately. Maybe this winter?
