These spectacular colored turquoise pools found in Yellowstone are created by the many bacteria that thrive here. When you look deep into these pools it's like looking into another world. What a fantastic place!

As always thanks for taking a look. Any critique, opinion or anything else you would like to add would be much appreciated.

The centered comp works nicely, and accentuates that great color! Wonderful sky too

This is magnificent, Dean! Yellowstone 'boiled' down to its essential (and elemental).
No nits from me whatsoever. Is that body of water in the background a lake or river?

I've seen many photographs of the pools found in Yellowstone, but this one has got to be the best I've seen so far. The perspective you used to capture this pool is wonderful. Would you mind posting the specs?

Everything comes together so nicely here, Dean. I really like everything about this, especially the soft light.

Mark and Carol, this was taken with a Canon 5d mark 2, 17-40mm Canon Lens @17mm, f18@0.5 seconds, 50 ISO. I cropped the sky and sides slightly to draw more attention to the hot pool.

John, the large body of water is Yellowstone Lake. West Thumb Geyser Basin overlooks the lake where this pool is located.

Thanks all for your comments.

Love the composition, Dean with the pool so prominent in the foreground, the colors which contrast so nicely with the surrounding landscape. Outstanding.

This is very well done Dean. The simplicity of 3/4 of the image with the pool is great. Holds a lot of impact for me.

Most of the locations on this planet that have been shot to death, have been so for a reason. Often it's the same reason: it's awesome. I must have seen quinquagintaquadringentilliard (a thousand quinquagintaquadringentillion) images of this location, but there is always room for another one, as long as it's a nice one. And this is - simple yet effective.

Love the place, and definitely love the wide-angle composition here. Great colors and light. Is there a GND filter also included? If it is, definitely a great addition. Wonderful image!

Rodrigo, If I remember right I think I used a 2 stop hard gnd filter. I used it handheld to avoid vignetting when I'm shooting at the wide end of my 17-40mm Canon lens.

Dean,

I think this is just fantastic! Aside from the wonderful colors presented here and the fine steam rising off the pool - and the great sky... I think the composition is awesome. Maybe one might think it's an obvious composition and perhaps it is, but I really think it's a top notch composition. You've included just the right amount of sky to compliment the scene, but to not over power it and leave the viewer wondering what your main subject is. Anyway, I love this.
