This is sunrise at Dream Lake on Sept. 13th. As the sky and landscape started to brighten there was little color due to the overcast conditions. I made a few exposures and some small talk with another photographer that set up close to me. At around 7:15 I had about given up hope of good color and the other photographer and I were now a little more into the conversation than the photography. Out of the corner of my eye I seemed to notice a change and looked around just as the entire lake and mountain lit up with a red glow. At that point all conversation stopped and back to work we went trying to capture the amazing scene. If anything this photo may be a little less red than the real thing. Being from Georgia and seeing many beautiful sunrises on the mountains of the southeastern US the amount of glow in a Rocky Mountain sunrise still blows me away.
C&C welcome.

Bruce

Great capture!! IMHO this is a fine photo being there early has paid off for you. The only thing I would suggest is to try and lighten the band of dark shadows if possible, just a bit. Thanks for sharing, wish I had been there!

Beautiful scene. That reflection is really intense. Could maybe see trying to pull more detail out of the shadows.

I love this scenery. Beautiful colors and I also love the intense color reflections.

Thanks for the comments. Tony I'm glad you commented as I was thinking that this photo might be a good one to try your luminosity masks on. I have never used them but think I might re-read the tutorial and give it a try.

Amazing show of light on the hill there Bruce. As already noted a little more details in the shadows would elevate this image a lot.

Does this one work any better. I know my monitor is not calibrated and I really need get the equiptment to do that. My old CRT monitor was never calibrated but prints made with no adjustment from the printer always came out real close to that monitor.
