Tangerine Dream

by David Edwards

Sunrise over Currumbin Beach, Queensland.

The sun was behind some thicker cloud and I was able to capture it's disk quite well without any flare problems as an explosion of tangerine color filled the sky. Certainly was a nice way to start the day.

D80, Sigma 10-20mm @20mm, f/11. A blend of a few shots for DR.

Many thanks for your comments.

Amazing soft, filtered light coming from the sun and some really nice glow in the fg. It seems to me that most of the interest here is in the top 2/3 and right 2/3 of the image - I might consider some sort of crop to focus attention there...if that makes any sense?

Beautiful image David. I can see what Rick means, but maybe a crop from the left would mean losing some balance with that patch of sky upper left and the illuminated sand on the right. Instead, personally, I'd try and squeeze a tad more detail out of the rocks on the left and not crop anything.

David,

Great shot. Wonderful colors and contrast. I think the foreground rock leads the way to the background perfectly. Probably the cropping suggested by Rick would have been a good idea, but leaving the rocks and haviing the luck of some extra water puddles in between, would have made a big difference. Well, you play with what you have at the moment.

The light here is just beautiful. While I like this as is, I can see how the cop suggested below would make a nice alternative presentation, as well. I also love the subtleties throughout - the sun, texture in the waves, reflected light, etc...

That's some really beautiful light you captured David!

I agree with Neale's suggestion about pulling a little more detail out on the left and leaving it uncropped.

That's some very special light. I like how the clouds and rocks share some textural qualities.

Glorious light David! The intricate details of light on the foreground tidal pool is delightful as well.

Very nice, David! The large version has much more presence and great detail. I think you could even afford to add a little bit of contrast to make it more 3D and a little more striking.

Love the textures in the foreground David. Warm light with a beautiful sun ball on the horizon adds nicely to the impact of the image as a whole. Awesome exposure.

A wonderfully moody coastal image. I love it! :toast:

Fall off on the left might be a touch too strong and might be able to be better balanced with the right in raw?
