Prairie Intimate

Several days ago Joe Kayne showed us a beautiful image from an Illinois prairie that has acres of these same plants -- button blazingstar, goldenrod, and little bluestem grass. This image shows an intimate view of those same plants with the addition of a seed head of prairie dropseed.

This is a four image stack at f/5.6 to pull the main subjects into focus while blurring the background.

Nikon D700; Nikkor 200mm; 1/250s -0.67; @f/5.6, ISO 200, tripod

Comments and criticisms always welcome.

A lovely arrangement. You were lucky there was no wind; this would be hard to stack in any kind of breeze. I think I would be tempted to clone out the OOF blazingstar in the BG, but the photo is good as is.

Nice combination of colors and I like the OOF BG. I might consider cropping a little off the bottom - just a thought.

Well done. I actually have the blazing star blooming in my yard right now. This is an eye catcher.

David,

Intimate prairie indeed. This is nicely crafted - including the stacking work. You did well and accomplished your goal of pulling the main subjects all up front in focus. I'd even say that you've effectively captured a plane of focus that perhaps couldn't have been done with a single image at 5.6?

I really like the colors and delicate detail of all the plants up front. Well done.

Well done, David! The purple and yellow colors go well together. You
have a good DOF also to artistically blur the BG.

Also thanks for the compliment and help on my recent wildflower posting.
I reposted it this morning attempting to lessen the sharpening affect.

There seems like there could be multiple meaning to the "intimate" concept here. These plants seem very friendly. Nice light.
