The Red Waves

Hi all,

This is my last attempt at an abstract seascape. I used a reverse GND filter to achieve a smooth exposure in a single shot. I liked how the waves were turned red by the incoming sunrise while the sun was still below the horizon.
I'm not sure if the composition is abstract enough, strong enough or even if the result works.

Thanks for the feedback!
Luis

I love the color layers here, and the detail in the sand/shore is awesome! Im a bit undecided about the exposure; the shot doesn't really feel "abstract" to me (it just looks like a beautiful beach scene...) and im assuming you used a slightly longer exposure to get a more abstract feel--cause i think if you were going for just a straight-forward pretty scene, faster would have been better. It works for me because of the nice light and colors, but if it were me i think i would have just stuck with the beautiful scene and gone a bit faster with the exposure, to get some more surf detail. My 3 cents... :wavey:

Works perfectly! Simple beautiful scenes like this get massively overlooked since they are not considered "hero shots" by the big dog photographers. But the rest of the world (not skewed by viewing too much photography) loves and appreciates it and will pick this (or buy it) over a "hero shot" any day of the week!

My only suggestion (and it is for nearly every seascape I ever see here) is the balancing of tones a little better. Our eyes don't see that sharp fall off of light on the right side that a simple graduated raw exposure adjustment could help if so desired.

Beautiful! :toast:

Stan & Mark thanks!

I forgot to add I was using the Samyang 35mm F1.4 lens here for the first time. I liked how it works, it's cheap and manual focus so great for landscape shooters.
(this in case someone was interested in that lens)

Very pretty Luis. I do agree with what Mark was saying about the light fall off. I like your chosen shutter speed. I would also love to see additional. more intimate shots from around the rocks with the water flows and foam.

A beautiful shot Luis! I love the colors here and feel of this. Looks like it would make a wonderful print. I think Marks comment is right about an image like this selling. Nice work!

Woah that's crazy light. Definitely works. I'd say maybe just a bit of pop to the lights/highlights as they seem a bit on the gray side but a very solid photo here! Kudos :)

Luis,

This is quite unique! I can't say that I've ever seen color in ocean waves like this before, but I'll take your word - and picture, for it. ;-)
I really like the contrasts here and as mentioned, the simplicity of this seascape. I wouldn't quite go so far as to call this an abstract since it's not too hard to identify.... but most certainly a unique interpretation and capture. Very nice work.

I really love this Luis...!
I am a big fan of simplistic imagery conveying powerful mood and emotions. This has that! Love the silky yet structured waves, how the wave lines are tinted crimson and the overall light, colours and composition.

Print and frame... :toast:

Works for me, Luis. A beautiful seascape... peaceful mood and lovely color. I like the spacing of the elements in your comp with the rock on the left anchoring the image wonderfully.

Thanks for the feedback really appreciated!
With all the powerful images here sometimes I feel very tiny with my photos and the encouraging words really make a difference.

Every word counts! Thanks!

@Tony: Is the last one I did certainly not the last one I'll ever do

Love the color contrasts! I am undecided on the rock...it provides a subject but I almost feel like a simpler comp would let the colors shine even more.

Hi Luis - I really like this. I like the interesting colors a lot and I like the rock. I agree with Paul that a different crop would give this a different feel - far more minimalist. I like both options. Very nice!
