Torres del Paine

This is another image from my trip to Torres del Paine in Patagonia.

I had scouted the lake below the Torres the day before and was lucky to have the shore for myself that morning. There were some high winds that moved the small clouds really fast. Strangely the lake's surface was calm though.

Parque Nacional Torres del Paine, XII Región de Magallanes y de la Antártica Chilena, Chile

Canon 5DMKII, EF 17-40 @ 17mm, Lee GND, B+W Polarizer
ISO 50, f/11, 110 seconds
single exposure processed in LR and PS (TKs luminosity masks)

Welcome to NPN! Overall, I like this image and the subject matter is just stunning. I wish there was just a little more of the clouds in the center, but that is a tiny point. Look forward to seeing more of your images in the future.

Welcome to NPN Joerg. Very nice shot. Like the movement in the sky. What a location captured nicely.

Gorgeous image with striking resolution. The water and rocks are so lovely I wonder if the photograph might look a little less busy if it were cropped to the bottom half or two-thirds. A radical idea I know.

It's a beautiful spot. I like seeing it without the icebergs too. Nice clouds and color in the sky. I do think the blues/cyans might be a little to strong.

Looks great. The movement in the clouds adds some dynamics to the shot.

Just before reading your description I was marveling at the strange disconnect between the motion in the sky and stillness of the lake, a neat contrast.

Joerg,

Beautiful reflection-scape. I'm a little torn about the motion in the clouds; not the motion per se, but because the motion had to start and stop somewhere. Somehow, that start/stop of motion is slightly distracting for me. Otherwise, what a fabulous setting and I'm sure you have lots of alternatives to this one. thanks for sharing.

I guess I've seen this one on your website already. It doesn't get much better than that - great location, great conditions and great execution/processing. My slightest nit would be that the lower right corner could feel a bit empty without your watermark. A little technical issue is the web sharpening which is a bit tough on the edges creating small halos. You could try my web sharpening script which takes that into account (link in my signature).

Wow, sweet shot!!! How lucky to catch the reflection in such a normally windy place. Personally, I would prefer a tighter crop around the mountains, but it's certainly nice how it is as well. The only thing that bothers me is that the watermark covers up the peaks reflection!
