Another image from cappadocia, this was taken on a truly uninspriring day with nothing but cloud cover and soft rain which dampend the mood for some in our group greatly. Luckily the landscape itself was great and clouded skies can be very dramatic so I decided to shoot several exposures of the same scene. When I finally got to processing this I had a lot of trouble getting it to work, but after several days of processing and coming back to process some more I finally had something I liked!

I seem to have posted jpg's without doing noise reduction, for a noise free version check under the purchase print button!

Tech: Canon 7d, 8mm several exposures for the sky and fg

I love the textures and darkness in this tasteful B+W conversion.

Nice photo.
On my monitor there is quite a bit of "noise".
Not sure if this is from exposure or overprocessing.

like the placement of the clouds, looks somewhat threatening...

This has a softness to it (not in a technical sense but in a mood sense) I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen another b&w that seemed to have warm tones. You might be on to something unique here.

The composition and sky are amazing. This works very well as b/w. My only nit is the noise in the sky. I'm not sure if it is intentional or not, but I can see horizontal lines of noise in the sky.

Dramatic image, well worth all the work. But there IS a high degree of noise that I don't think you intended.

Wonderful, Jorne. Can't think of any improvements (except the noise in the sky maybe).

Thanks everyone! Yes the noise is an unfortunate side effect of me forgetting to clean the jpg's. For a noise free version see the purchase print link

And I did a quick (but not perfect) noiseremoval on this repost. The one under purchase print is still better however!

This is very nice. Quite an interesting shot and the b/w works very well with it. The clouds work great with the foreground. Yes, the image under purchase print is really nice. :toast:

What a strong comp, Jorne. I can just feel myself getting sucked into the clouds. Shapes and textures here are very eye-catching and B&W enhances it all very nicely.

It is better, but there is still banding on the one on your site. Still, a dramatic image and excellent conversion.

Cool shot all things considered. I too would try to clobber the noise.

The shapes, colors and textures here are wonderful. That radiating cloud is fantastic, as well. Everything comes together very nicely and I am really enjoying this image. I agree with the comments about the noise reduction, but otherwise find this to be excellent.
