Elk antler art?

North Yellowstone Park, early July, late afternoon. I followed this bull elk (at considerable distance) as it browsed its way through tall grasses. Then it eased down into the grass, as if to rest and digest. I thought the antlers alone made a more interesting image, how about you?

The antlers are pretty sharp but look a bit soft because they are covered with soft "velvet", which supplies blood for continued growth.

Canon 7D, 300mm, f/5.6, 1/320th, handheld, cropped about 50% to emphasize the antlers. See larger image, too.

Comments welcome. Dave Thomas, Leesburg, Virignia

Neat idea and nice to see it in such a lush setting. The softness in the image however prevents the composition from working to its full potential. Curious about the iso settings, if it were high, there might not have been much you could do about the sharpness.

David, I agree about the softness of the image. I must admit I do prefer to see more of the elks' head with the antlers. Just my personal preference. Thanks for sharing.

I love your creative idea Dave. IMO this would have worked even better if only, the antlers were visible, i.e. not the head at all. further the image does appear a bit soft indeed.

Like the antlers in the grass. Could be a little lighter and sharper.
